Kent Colts v Kent Ladies on Sunday 30th March 2014 at Littlestone Golf Club
Team: Freddie Price(Capt ), Mark Collins, Sam Statham, Henry Saunders, Joe Curtis, George Burton,
Liam Sutton, Tom Bayliss, Luke Spooner, Josh Bristow
On a magnificent day for golf, blue skies, warm temperature and negligible wind both teams were able to demonstrate their skills and competitive spirit to the full.
The morning foursomes were an extremely close affair with the match score finishing 2 ½ to 2 ½
with all but one match finishing on the 18th. The highlight, particularly for the Ladies, was Captain Ingrid Long’s eagle chip in on the last hole to win her match against Joe Curtis and George Burton.
Following an excellent lunch and under the watchful eye of Starter and County Captain, Danny Curtis, the match remained in the balance for much of the afternoon. Freddie Price, Colts Captain had a 3 and 2 win over Fiona McCann to complete a 100% record, only for his sister Lily to record exactly the same against George Burton. When Holly Standing managed to defeat Joe Curtis the match was still in the balance.
Fortunately, for the Colts, their strength in depth eventually told and when Josh Bristow defeated Nancy O’Connor in the final match as they had become winners 9 ½ to 5 ½.
Many of the girls playing are part of the Development Programme along with the boys and the day gave an excellent opportunity for parents, managers and committee members from both sides to view the wealth of talent that is within the county.
A special thank you must go to the staff at Littlestone, who, once again provided a magnificent course and made everyone feel so welcome.
