POST TITLE:                      County Development Officer (CDO) - Kent

DEPARTMENT:                   Participation & Club Support

RESPONSIBLE TO:             Senior Regional Manager & County Golf Partnership (CGP) Steering Group

RESPONSIBLE FOR:           N/A

PURPOSE:

To implement the activities as defined within the Kent CGP Operational Plan.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal:

  • Senior Regional Manager – monthly meetings and regular communication.
  • Staff – Participation & Club Support, including links with national managers (Disability, Young People & Junior Golf and Women & Girls).
  • County Golf Partnerships Steering Group and working groups – communication with Chairman and individual representatives.
  • County Unions, Associations & County PGA – communication with County Secretaries.
  • Clubs – communication through targeted programmes and business support.

 

External:

  • Affiliated golf clubs and other golfing facilities – regular communication and provision of support.
  • Professionals, Volunteers, Secretaries and Managers.
  • Bodies involved in golf development in England at a local level (e.g. Golf Foundation).
  • County Sports Partnerships (CSPs), Local Authorities, Street Games etc. – communication on avenues of resources and support available.

 

MAIN DUTIES & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To implement the Kent CGP Operational Plan, in line with the England Golf’s strategic plan 2014 to 2017 ‘Raising our Game’ at a grass-roots level within Kent.
  • To market and promote the aims and objectives of the Kent Golf Partnership to affiliated clubs and other related organisations, such as County Sports Partnerships and Local Authorities.
  • To raise the profile of golf in Kent and encourage people of all ages, abilities, backgrounds and genders into the game and golf club membership.
  • To be the first point of call for golf development enquiries in the county and to be the contact for the Kent Golf Partnership where it relates to golf development matters.
  • To regularly communicate with all of the Kent Golf Partnership partners and affiliated golf clubs on the progress towards achieving their targets and the impact of specific development initiatives.
  • To market and promote England Golf and development initiatives to clubs to encourage more people into golf and to develop and retain existing participants and members.
  • To identify potential sources of funding and apply as appropriate to support the implementation of the Operational Plan.
  • To seek out examples of good practice within golf clubs and publicise such examples via a dedicated web-site, newsletter and the use of social media.
  • To encourage affiliated golf clubs and driving ranges to develop a healthy, structured golfing environment (i.e. GolfMark and RangeMark).
  • To deliver a structured programme of seminars and workshops across the county, including an Annual Conference (as appropriate).
  • To increase participation by setting up a network of ‘Get into Golf Centres/facilities’ and help these golf facilities to sustain regular participation.
  • To keep the Senior Regional Manager advised of their itinerary on a regular basis and adhere to the set reporting structure, including attending regional and national review meetings, as required.
  • To maintain regular contact with the Golf Foundation Regional Development Officer to support and jointly review the delivery and performance of Golf Roots programmes including Satellite and Doorstep Clubs.

LOCATION:

Home or other remote office (for example golf club or county office).  Require to travel as necessary to meetings and events within county/region and to visit England Golf headquarters as required (The National Golf Centre, Woodhall Spa).

  • Prior work in leisure or golf related industry.

  • Valid driver's licence or access to transport.
  • Prepared to travel/work weekends & evenings.
  • Involvement with golf.
  • It is preferred that the person lives within the County associated with this role.

COUNTY DEVELOPMENT OFFICER

(Kent)

 Salary £18,000 - £23,000 per annum dependant on experience (plus expenses)

Driving the delivery of the ‘Recruit’ and ‘Retain’ elements of the Kent Golf Partnership Operational Plan up to 31st March 2017, in line with England Golf’s strategic plan 2014 to 2017 ‘Raising our Game’.

To help support Kent Golf Partnership’s objectives (made up of the Men’s Union, Ladies Association and PGA) we require a County Development Officer to join our progressive team, on a fixed term contract until 31st March 2017.  This position is externally funded and, subject to performance, may be extended beyond this period.

The position is home based however, the Kent Golf county office is available for use as and when required.  In addition, the successful candidate will be required to travel as necessary to meetings (valid driving licence & car owner is essential).  The post-holder will be entitled to travel and other expenses.

We are seeking candidates, ideally, with a sports related diploma, sports development experience and a good knowledge of golf. The skills required include the ability to work autonomously, with written, verbal and IT communication skills, be highly motivated and have the ability to work with professionals and volunteers. 

Prior work experience in event planning and programme delivery is desirable but not essential.

The post is full-time and will be required to work evenings/weekends if necessary.
