The Hinge Trophy results from Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club

HIGH WINDS DOMINATE THE HINGE TROPHY QUALIFIERS

at Prince’s Golf Club on Sunday 3rd November 2013
and Royal Cinque Ports on Sunday 10th November 2013

The Kent Golf Union held the first two qualifying rounds of the Hinge Trophy, often referred to as The Winter Trials, on Sundays 3rd and 10th November 2013.

Despite constant rain in the weeks leading up to both events it was fine and sunny on each of the two Sundays but extremely windy and cold. I know because I was the starter on the first tee for both occasions.

The first of the two events was hosted by Prince’s Golf Club where 36 players all with handicaps of six or lower took on the elements with Tom Bayliss of Dartford Golf Club and George Dale of Chart Hills returning the best gross scores of the day, both with 74.

Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club welcomed the second qualifier, again on a sunny but very cold and windy day.  Mark Collins of Chart Hills Golf Club also carded a gross 74 to lead the field of 32 on the day.

The scores reflect the difficulty the wind created on both days following which the top 25 from each day go through to Littlestone Golf Club on Sunday 5th January 2014.  The top 40 from the Littlestone event then play the final at The Royal St Georges on Saturday 1st February 2014.

Notwithstanding the wind, both days were most enjoyable, further enhanced by the exceptional condition of both courses and the excellent hospitality enjoyed by everyone.
