It was third time lucky for Max Orrin as he found his form to win the fifth Andalucia Junior European Open.
Orrin, from the North Foreland club, lived up to his billing as favourite by mounting a final-day surge to secure the title. This was his third attempt to win the tournament, which was held at Finca Cortesin. It is regarded as the premier event for juniors and was organised in association with the Daily Express. having started the final day one shot behind Dean Reece-Davis, from Worcestershire's Abbey club, Kent based Orrin eventually took the outright lead after birdies on the fourth, fifth and ninth holes. And he never looked back.
There was high drama in the girls' event too. Cheshire's Poppy Finlay looked very comfortable on the 18th tee but drove out of bounds and carded an eight to allow Sami Giles to force a play-off.
Giles from St. Mellion in Cornwall, produced the perfect nine-iron into the 10th hole and tw-putted, while Finlay missed the green, right, and bogeyed.
Tournament director Fred Moghadam said: "These youngsters were a joy to watch. What a credit to British golf".
