Kent Amateur Championship 2019 - 7th - 9th June - Sittingbourne & Milton Regis Golf Club

Kent Amateur Championship 2019 - Friday 7th – Sunday 9th June

A sunny start to the Kent Amateur Championship at Sittingbourne and Milton Regis Golf Club was sadly short lived on Friday’s qualifying rounds, as the heavens opened, and the scores rolled in. A superb 36-hole total from Liam Burns (Chislehurst Golf Club) winning the qualifying with a two-round total of 140 (-2) closely followed by Rochester and Cobham’s Jamie Wood one stroke behind, with 7 over par 149 qualifying into the top 16.

Saturday’s Matchplay weather was also not filled with hope for the Top 16 players and it was commendable the effort that Sittingbourne and Milton Regis’s Greenkeepers put in to keeping play going, but sadly as the heavens continued to open it was a short break for the players on Saturday to escape the weather with rain delays. Fortunately, the Green Staff worked tirelessly to ensure the greens were cut and squeegeed to ensure play could continue. After an exciting day of Golf Saturday narrowed the Top 16 into the Semi-Finalists, Cameron Lombard (Canterbury Golf Club), Kipp Popert (Wildernesse Golf Club), Charlie Hickling (Wildernesse Golf Club) and Jamie Wood (Rochester and Cobham Golf Club).

Sunday’s semi-finals had more of a promising start to the day with the rain holding off and Sittingbourne and Milton Regis Golf Club being once again beautifully presented for the final day of the Kent Amateur. In a closely fought match between Charlie Hickling and Cameron Lombard, Charlie managed to secure a 3 and 1 win and some absolutely faultless Golf from Jamie Wood against Kipp Popert resulted in a 4 and 3 win and a Wood vs Hickling Final.

In a closely fought final supported by a number of County officials, Sittingbourne and Milton Regis Golf Club members, and friends and family, a display of superb Golf was performed by both Charlie Hickling and Jamie Wood, however Charlie took the win on the 16th Green 3 and 2.

A huge congratulations to all of the prize winners, Charlie Hickling for Winning the Kent Amateur 2019, Jamie Wood for Runner-up, Top Under 25, best overall qualifying nett score, and winning the Team Shield with Rochester and Cobham (Ryan Godwin, Nick Panting, Shaun Macklin and Jamie Wood). Cameron Lombard and Kipp Popert for their Semi-Finalist medals and to Liam Burns for winning the best overall gross qualifying score.

A huge thanks to Sittingbourne and Milton Regis Golf Club for their superb hospitality and tireless work to keep the course in perfect condition and playable throughout the challenging weather conditions of the weekend. Kent Golf’s thanks were presented with a shield for Sittingbourne and Milton Regis from Kent President Jim Pocknell to Sittingbourne’s President (Pictured above).
