Once again we have come to the end of another successful season at Faversham Golf Club. We have exceeded the expectations of many and welcomed a significant number of new youngsters, their parents, guardians, grandparents and carers to our golfing family.
A special thanks to Oscar Panton our Junior Captain who has been a magnificent role model and has been on the course with many of our young members.
I know statistics can be boring but I thought I would share with you some headline numbers, which highlight just how successful your participation has been.
The sponsorship of refreshments at the “halfway hut” was outstanding and a big thank you to Sue for serving the welcome sausage rolls, drinks and snacks. The continued sponsorship of our named meets is equally humbling and so very much appreciated
Our junior section is acknowledged by Kent Golf as one of, if not the most successful in Kent.
None of the aforementioned would be achieved without the support of everyone. It has been a really difficult year with COVID restrictions, illnesses and the unprecedented overlap with other sports who extended their seasons. However we had consistently high numbers for all of our 14 meets. We had success in our very popular Junior Open and our own Jake Connolly partnered Keiki Chapman of Rochester & Cobham achieved first place success in the Kent Golf Joan Piper Trophy held at Faversham.
Very well done to Skye Fontanelli for representing Kent. I am sure that more of our juniors will progress though the academies to represent our county and beyond.
My thanks to Mark Panton for his splendid work managing our team in our first venture into the Srixon League and to Colin Taylor for his sterling efforts managing the Golf Sixes squad.
We have received a Kent Golf Junior Development grant towards getting our blue tees recognised and officially rated so they can be used for official handicaps and competitions. It is our aim to achieve this during the winter season if possible.
I am really pleased to announce the re-opening of our reserved tee on Sunday afternoons. More details when they are made available.
Even though we have entered the quieter season for golf due to the shorter days and less welcoming weather a lot of work will be going on in the background. So please make sure you continue to practise, receive coaching and continue playing through the winter. Don’t forget we now have covered bays to keep you reasonable dry on our driving range.
A special thank you to Jo for her sterling work for the juniors and to Paul for his support in what has been a challenging time.
As always please feel free to give us feedback so that we continue to develop our junior section in a way that benefits everyone.
Take great care and keep smiling!!
