Kent Golf Limited

Are you approaching 55 with a handicap of 4 or less?

In the UK, Seniors golf generally starts at 55 but in Kent you can play in the Seniors Trial from the age of 53 (handicap limit 7 or below). This year the Trial is at the Royal St. George’s Golf Club on 20th March, a wonderful venue for a miserly £33 entry fee. In addition prizes are available to be won! Whilst you cannot represent the County until you are 55, feel free to come along and “get your name known” at an early stage.

The County have a rich pedigree in Seniors golf, having been English County Seniors Champions four times in the last seven years including 3 times in a row. This is a six man team qualifying through a regional 36 hole scratch qualification, and then proceeding to 3 all day matches with the other regional qualifiers in October. For the final we are allowed to take 8 players although only 6 play at any one time. Unfortunately, in 2012 we failed to qualify for the final stages and the national title was claimed, for the first time, by Hertfordshire.

In addition to this competition there is a South Eastern League event where we compete against Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire and Dorset. Teams are 10 men playing singles match play. Matches usually take place around mid-day with a light meal thereafter. The winner of this league then play the winner of the northern division to claim the Daily Telegraph Salver. Having won this in previous years, in 2012 Kent were beaten by Hertfordshire in this regional play off.

There is also a foursomes event where, again, there is a regional qualification day followed by the finals, usually in October.

The standard of golf in the South East is high with handicaps as low as plus 2 being on display. Kent are a strong county and regularly field a team of 10 players in the +1 to 4 handicap range. This said, we are continually on the look-out for new additions to our squad so if you think you are up for the challenge, please feel free to join us at our trial or to make contact with the County Office who will pass your details on to the Team Manager Mark Singfield.
