Summer Stableford and Foursomes report

A beautifully sunny Cherry Lodge played host to our Kent Golf 2023 Summer Stableford and Foursomes, very kindly sponsored by Shepherd Neame. Twenty-eight players assembled for an 18-hole individual stableford in the morning and an 18-hole foursome in the afternoon, and with two nearest the pins also up for grabs, there was plenty to play for.
There was some good scoring and some accurate shooting from a couple of Redlibbets members, with Darren Read and Lydia Hoare taking the nearest the pin prizes. Lydia kept up the good play and took third place on 36 points. Three points ahead on 39, taking second place, was Glenn Steward (Hever Castle) but no one could reach the splendid 41 points posted by David Martin (Hever Castle). Well played, David!
With the wind gathering pace throughout lunchtime, would the scoring be as competitive in the afternoon? Well, it turned out to be so with only three points separating the top three places. Hever Castle members continued their assault on the prizes with Glenn Steward and Tim Tisdall taking third place with 35, narrowly beaten by their clubmates, Paul Johnson and David Martin on 36. But the accolades and Starter’s Trophy went to the very deserving duo of Steve Butler and Norman Kane (West Malling) with 38 points. The Shepherd Neame goodies couldn’t have found a better home!

Next year’s event finds us at the other end of the county so come and join us on the 24 July 2024 at North Foreland for what promises to be a lovely day by the sea.
