Pearson Inter Counties Finals

For the second year running, Nizels represented Kent in the Pearson Inter Counties Finals, which took place this year at Highgate Golf Club in Middlesex on Wednesday 19th July 2023.
The team all arrived on Tuesday to have a practice round and stayed overnight in a local hotel to avoid the stress of travelling before a match.
Highgate Golf Club couldn’t have been more welcoming to the visiting county managers and teams, with the added bonus of the ladies section providing endless supplies of homemade cakes at the halfway hut.
The order of play in the morning for the Semi-Finals was, Hertfordshire (Brookmans Park Golf Club) against Surrey (Worplesdon Golf Club) followed by Middlesex (North Middlesex Golf Club) against Kent (Nizels Golf Club).
Sarah Chuter, the Nizels team manager, appeared very calm as her team got ready for the day ahead. The order of play was Denise Carr, Amada Rose, Nikki Bell, Jackie Taylor, Luisa Makepeace, Joanne Best and Sue Morgan. Her reserves were Karen Duncan and Cheh Ngim Ratcliffe.
It was a very exciting Semi Finals and even the heavy downpour couldn’t spoil the atmosphere of the day.
After 9 holes Denise was 1 down, Amanda 1 up, Nikki 2 up, Jackie all square, Luisa 3 down, Joanne 2 up and Sue 3 down so everything was to play for, but they knew they had a tough task playing against a Middlesex team.
Even though the first win was for Kent, the next 3 were to Middlesex but in true Nizels' spirit they continued to battle. Unfortunately, another loss on the 19th hole meant the overall win to Middlesex.
Even though Nizels were unable to retain the Inter Counties Trophy that they had won the previous year at Prince's, they really did Kent proud representing the county again.
The final in the afternoon was between Hertfordshire and Middlesex resulting in Middlesex winning for the first time since 2005.
The Kent Pearson Trophy 2022/23 was held in June at West Kent Golf Club which saw Nizels retaining the trophy and we look forward to them entering the 2023/24 season to defend their title again.
