Race to St George's - East Kent Qualifier report

The weather curse that has hit this year’s Race to St. George’s was in evidence yet again at Broome Park GC for the East Kent Qualifier. One thing is for sure, whoever gets through to the season-ending finale at Royal St. George’s will most certainly have earnt their place! Persistent rain and unseasonably cold temperatures made for a long and demanding day and all credit to the youngsters for staying out there and sticking to their task.
Luca Alderson (Poult Wood), out in the first group, had a storming front nine of three-under-par but a lost ball on the back half took the wind somewhat out of his sails. However, his two-over-par 74 was good enough for a four-shot victory. Taking second place in the scratch was Arthur Saunders (Littlestone), and rounding out the top three was Riley Dowle (Rochester & Cobham Park).
In the Nett competition, the spoils went to Haiden Matos (Dartford) with a fine 72, two shots ahead of Michael Haywood (Rochester & Cobham Park), who was just ahead of clubmate, Oliver Kelham, in third.
Our thanks go to Broome Park who were terrific hosts and the players all enjoyed receiving a goody-bag at the start of the day!
