Youths’ Championship report

Date published: 14 Aug 2023

It was marvellous to see a full field of 39 at Knole Park for the 2023 Kent Youths’ Championship. The weather was changeable – as it has been all year – but, for the most part, there was very little rain and just the occasional gust of wind.

The morning pace was set by Oliver Lewis-Perkins (Mid-Kent) with a solid round of 69, one under par. Snapping at his heels were the trio of Jordan Hall (Wrotham Heath), William Partner (Sene Valley) and Taran Randall (Kings Hill), all on 72. Just behind them, on 73, was Max Murray (Sundridge Park). The afternoon brought mixed fortunes for Jordan and Taran and they both dropped out of contention. William and Max had matching 71s which was good enough for second and third place respectively. But no-one could match Oliver who backed up his 69 with a level-par round of 70 to win by 4 shots.

The Handicap Cup was won by Jonathan Kay (Royal Blackheath) who had nett scores of 74 and 68; the 68 being the only under par nett score all day.

We thank Knole Park for their continued generosity to Kent Golf – wonderful hosts as always – and look forward to returning next year.
