Junior Summer Meeting report

Another glorious day of wall-to-wall sunshine welcomed us to Gillingham Golf Club for this year’s Junior Summer Meeting. With a field of 37 players, it was a busy day for our knowledgeable referees, Ciarán and Angela, and our trusty volunteers, Marilyn, Paula, and Tim. We were also helped by Gillingham General Manager, Aaron, who made sure all the juniors crossed the road safely. Thank you to all of them for giving up their time to assist; it is much appreciated and vital to the safe and smooth running of our competitions.
There was some terrific scoring in evidence and winning the scratch prize by two shots with a 66 was Sasha Hellen (Dartford), who was two shots ahead of Cameron Garcha (Mid-Kent). Rounding out the top three was Haiden Matos (Dartford) with a 69.
Taking the handicap trophy was Teagan Ford (Bearsted) with a brilliant nett 60. In second place was Bella Watson (Langley Park) with a nett 63, two ahead of third-placed Elliot Swift (Boughton).
In the stableford competition (for players with a handicap of 24.5 and above), the winner by three shots with a splendid 42 points was Tom Edmeads (Hever Castle). Taking second place with 39 was Louis Garvey (Canterbury) with Imogen Kennard (West Malling) coming in third with 37.
