There was a distinctly autumnal feel in the air as 37 of our Kent women congregated at The Darenth for this year’s Rooke Salver (over 60s). The course looked most inviting in the sunshine and the few grey clouds that threatened soon passed over.
On a day of quite tough scoring, only three players beat their handicaps.
Coming in in fourth place with 35 points was Jan Morgan (Dartford), three points behind the third placed player, Jennifer Smith (The Darenth). Defending champion, Lyn Baimbridge (Sundridge Park), put up a spirited defence and took second spot with 39 points, only losing out on countback to this year’s winner, Helen Johnson (Shortlands), who emerged triumphant on her debut in this event.
