#YouthMentalHealthDay

Date published: 19 Sep 2023

This year's #YouthMentalHealth Day theme is #BeBrave

Mental Health concerns for young people have multiplied in recent times. A study showed that 1 in 6, 5-16 year olds have a diagnosable mental health disorder. It also highlighted that 6 in 10 young people say they are experiencing mental health difficulties such as anxiety, low mood, eating disorders, and self-harming behaviours.

Though times continue to be challenging, Youth Mental Health Day is a great initiative that provides hope and positivity. By getting young people engaged in discussions and activities about how to improve their mental health. Youth Mental Health Day is more than raising awareness and breaking stigma surrounding mental health. It aims to tackle the heart of the issue by giving young people a voice and provides appropriate steps towards tackling mental health.

What is Youth Mental Health Day?

This special day encourages understanding and discussion of mental health in young people. The aim is to get young people, and those who support them, talking about how we can improve mental health.

What do we mean #BeBrave?

We are encouraging young people to step out of their comfort zone by doing something different. Whether it’s building confidence in facing difficult situations, building self-confidence through learning to work together on team tasks, or learning to fail by having the courage to do something new, no matter the outcome.

How to get involved.
