Race to St George's South Qualifier report

Date published: 19 Sep 2023

The rescheduled Race to St George's South Qualifier event at Sene Valley GC saw 37 youngsters line up for their final opportunity to qualify for the Race to St. George’s Final next month at the prestigious Open venue at Sandwich. Thankfully, the hailstones stayed away this time, and everyone managed to complete their round as planned!

Winning the scratch prize on the day was Abe Bignell (Kings Hill) with a steady round of 73. He was closely followed by a host of players on 74, and taking the runner-up spot on countback was Jenson Ringer (Rochester and Cobham) with Justin Chenu (Chelsfield Lakes) finishing third.

The nett prize was won by the fast-improving Tom Edmeads (Hever Castle) with a 63, which included a terrific two-over par front nine. Elliot Swift (Boughton) came second with a nett 67, and George Leach (Prince’s) rounded out the top three with a 70.

Our sincere thanks go to Sene Valley for making room in their diary at a weekend to reschedule this competition and for their hospitality on both of our visits this year.

Congratulations to all the winners on the day and especially to those who have made it through qualifying and will be teeing it up at Royal St. George's on 26 October for the final.
