Autumn Meeting report

Date published: 1 Nov 2023

In a week full of wind, rain and storm Ciarán, we were lucky to find a dry and sunny day to play the 2023 Kent Golf Autumn Meeting at Chart Hills, very kindly sponsored by Peter Millar. A full field of 64 took to the course to enjoy the splendid layout and, fortified by their hearty breakfast, there was some very good fourball betterball scoring on display.

Taking the honours with 51 points was the West Malling pairing of Malcolm Gofton and Andy Yates, who just pipped the Hever Castle duo of Alan Turner and David Martin by one point. Next were Gina Phillips and Carol Turl (Nizels) with 45 points, who took third place on countback from Jane Marr (Kings Hill) and Keith Heron (Sidcup). Completing our top five were the father-and-son pairing of Tony and Jack Coulstock (Shortlands) with 44 points.

Our nearest the pin winners on the 3rd were Gill McMillan (Sene Valley) and Norman Kane (West Malling), and the island green on 17 proved no problem to Tony Coulstock and Pat Morecroft (Nizels), who both fired in an accurate ball to win the prize there.

Booming it down the twelfth and making off with the long driving prizes were Ally Kutz (Bearsted) and Dave Walters (Eltham Warren).

Finally, a special mention to Matt Allen, who achieved the rare feat of back-to-back eagles on holes five and six. Nice going!

Our thanks go to Ant Tarchetti and his team at Chart Hills for making us all so welcome, and we hope it is not too long before we return.
