Christmas Meeting 2023 report

Date published: 7 Dec 2023

Another full field at Kings Hill Golf Club for the ever-popular Kent Golf Christmas Meeting. It was a beautifully bright and sunny morning, but the stubborn frost meant the start would be delayed by just over an hour, with holes two and ten remaining out of play. But by switching to a two-tee start, and everyone playing ready-golf and maintaining a good pace of play, we managed to get all groups round the course in daylight – excellent!

Winning the longest drives with a couple of mighty missiles down the 18th were Kevin Allsop (Dartford) and Helen Johnson (Shortlands). Showing their accuracy on the nearest-the-pin holes were Geoff Westlake (Gillingham) on the 6th and Terry Wickham (Rochester & Cobham Park) on the 11th. For the women, the sharp-shooters were Ali Chapman (Prince’s) on the 8th and Jacqui Neilly (Corinthians) on the 17th.

With some very respectable scoring in chilly conditions, third place was taken by Ali Chapman and Andy Walker (Prince’s) with 37 points (over 16 holes), just one point behind our runners-up, Louise and Cliff Earl (Corinthians). But taking the spoils, on countback, was the Rochester & Cobham Park pair of Terry Wickham and Chris Norris with 38 points.

Our thanks go to Kings Hill for their splendid hospitality – the Christmas dinner went down a treat - and a special mention for the Pro’s Shop team for making up the lovely hampers for us. A very enjoyable event with some fine Christmas jumpers on display!

Our 2024 competitions open for entry on 1st January and the season will begin in earnest with the Spring Meeting at The London Club on the 18th March.

Thank you for your support in 2023, and we look forward to seeing you at our Kent Golf events next year.

Merry Christmas!
