Junior Spring Meeting report

Date published: 5 Apr 2024

Naturally, with the English cricket season starting today, yesterday’s Junior Spring Meeting at Broome Park GC was cold, wet, and overcast. With thirty intrepid youngsters in the medal and six more taking part in the stableford, competition was sure to be keen for the trophies and prizes. With the course playing long and hard, scoring was tough.

Best gross score of the day was 77 by William Sprent (Chart Hills) and Tom Paterson (Boughton), with William taking the trophy on countback. Coming in third with a 79 was Marley Klosek (Prince’s).

Winner of the nett trophy was Teagan Ford (Bearsted) with an impressive 72, beating Jude Lockwood (Eltham Warren) into second place, again on countback. With a nett 76, Mackenzie Porter (Gillingham) took third spot.

In the stableford event, there were two excellent rounds of 36 points with Imogen Kennard (West Malling) just pipping Oliver Elms (North Foreland) on countback to take the trophy. Rounding out the top three was Joshua Searle (Sundridge Park) with 30 points.

Our thanks go to Broome Park for their excellent hospitality and for the welcome gift bags that were much appreciated by the players.

And a very big thank you to our Kent Golf volunteers – Marilyn, Jane, Allan, Robin, and Cheryl – for braving the elements and getting our budding young golfers round the course in such difficult conditions.

There’s no doubt that the next time we visit Broome Park, we are most definitely owed some sunshine!
