Kent Women's 2nd Team matches v Middlesex and Surrey

Kent Women's 2nd Team arrived for a practice round at Crews Hill Golf Club the day before the match v Middlesex to torrential rain, so it was decided to walk the course rather than play and get everything soaked before the 36 hole match. On the day of the match, the rain persisted but was showery, and the team played well to secure a 2-1 lead after the foursomes. The afternoon weather gradually improved, and the rain cleared after a few holes.
The singles were hotly contested, and most of the matches were very close. A draw in the singles was enough to give Kent a 5-4 win in our first match of the season.
Thanks go to all our players, Middlesex for hosting a very friendly but very competitive match, and especially to Rose, the Middx Captain, in her last match as 2nd Team Manager.
With the weather much better than earlier in the week, the 2nd team enjoyed a dry and mainly sunny day for their second match v Surrey at Sene Valley Golf Club. Kent lost our first game to two very low handicappers but countered quickly with a good win from our third pair. The middle game was nip and tuck all the way, pars on 16 & 17 kept the match live and all square. Solid play up the last gave Kent the victory and a 2-1 lead at lunch. Despite a good win from Annabel at the front and a great fight back from Katherine to get a half, Surrey’s strength showed through, taking the match 5½ - 3½.
