Kent Golf Limited

England Golf Representative

Mark Ward (Rochester & Cobham) is the Director of England Golf at Kent Golf.

Mark represents the county at this level and reports back to the Kent Board on all matters. There is no dedicated committee on this, as the subjects can cover all area of golf, so he talks to whoever is appropriate. Sarah McDonald is the main point of support as she is copied in on all items as County Secretary.

Currently Mark sits on The Handicaps and Course Rating Committee as the representative for course ratings in the South East counties, it may not always be someone from Kent Golf. It just happens that Mark is one of the more experienced and knowledgeable course raters (in the country). There is no committee behind this role, Mark liaises with the counties on their course ratings.

Regarding Course rating in our county, Mark is currently the only qualified Lead Course Assessor. England Golf are very strict on the number of course raters that can have access to the rating platforms, as a licensing issue. Mark is currently training up Alan Austin (Director of Championship and Competitions - Lamberhurst) to become a Lead Rater and starting with another volunteer in course rating.

There are many other course raters who come out on a regular basis to help walk the courses and take the measurements as we need them all as we have to do every tee set.

Course rating is currently a sub-committee of two members - Mark Ward and Alan Austin. They sit within the Clubs Committee of David Mabbott, but tend to do their own administration as they need to be flexible to fit in with clubs events/tee bookings and the weather.
