CHRIS REYNOLDS (LITTLESTONE) WINS IN STYLE AT WROTHAM HEATH

Kent Golf Union held their Seniors Championships on Thursday 4 July where forty three of the county’s top senior golfers played for the coveted trophies.

Chris Reynolds of Littlestone was the first man away at 8.00 a.m. on this cool breezy morning to start plotting his way round the very tricky but beautifully presented Wrotham Heath course and led from the very first tee.  Playing off scratch, Reynolds shot one over par 71 in the morning round, five shots better than nearest rival Colin Martyn of Shooters Hill.

As the day warmed up, so did the golf and the afternoon round only got better for Reynolds who went on to shoot a one under par second round to finish the day on level par. In his winning gross score of 140 for 36 holes, Reynolds had 9 birdies offset by one triple and six bogies illustrating just how tough the course and the breeze were but also how steadily he played to lift the Kent Senior Championship Scratch Cup.  Ross Galgut, also of Littlestone followed his lacklustre morning 78 with a much improved 72 to finish second with a gross score of 150, ten shots behind the winner. Steve Dorritt of Royal Cinque Ports was third with a 36 hole score of 152.

In the competition for the net score prizes, Philip Mitchell of Nizels Golf & Country Club won the Seniors Handicap Championship Cup with a net score of 138 playing off a handicap of 9.  That man Chris Reynolds added to his Scratch Championship trophy with second in the net prizes and Neil Parham was third on 143 playing off a handicap of 11.

The Godden Salver for the best over sixties gross score was won by, yes, you’ve guessed it, Chris Reynolds and the Senior Over 70’s prize for the morning 18 holes was won by Nick Allen with a gross score of 81 playing off a handicap of 8.

It should be said that Wrotham Heath and Captain Roy Williams (who took part in the Championship but retired with a back injury) were wonderful hosts and provided much appreciated friendly hospitality to all concerned which helped to make the day a great success.
