'Bring a Buddy' junior golf initiative

Date published: 6 Jun 2023

Barry Sears from Faversham Golf Club started a great new junior golf initiative with his 'Bring a Buddy' system. It has been a very fruitful exercise which all the kids enjoy. Thank you for sharing the short resumé below

"Bring a Buddy"

As a junior section we have a clearly defined pathway for introducing and developing young golfers. Part of this exciting journey is with the help of existing junior members who already share their enthusiasm for the great sport of golf.

We don't have goals for numbers of buddies or for signing up new members but aim to provide an opportunity for young golfers to bring along a buddy or two to share the experience.

We start by dedicating one of our regular meets to focus on "Bring a Buddy".

The criteria is:

  • No cost to the junior or their buddy
  • Free loan of clubs from our ever-increasing library of second hand clubs
  • The buddy can be introduced to any of our formats, golf experience / taster, Blue Tee Challenge, Intermediate or full 18 holes
  • The existing junior can accompany their buddy to any of the formats and give them encouragement eg a WHS player can bring along a beginner and encourage them to try golf. The buddy can then escort their friend on the course and not play, just soak up the
  • experience
  • Additional help is provided by other existing experienced juniors
  • No prizes just register and participate

The afternoon is relaxed and friendly with the only currency exchanged being "SMILES"

Conclusion: as a result of this year's initiative (2023) we have processed 9 new membership applications and as a result of "the buddies" talking to their buddies a further 4 arranged to visit Faversham GC and are now new members. The introduction of "Bring a Buddy" at Faversham GC has been a resounding success!

Certainly worth a try!
