U18 Boys league match against Hampshire and Surrey

Date published: 14 Jun 2023

Sherfield Oaks in Hampshire held host of our 3rd and final league match of the year against Hampshire and Surrey.

Kent had their usual strong side and were ahead as a team after 9 holes. Unfortunately a storm came through as the last group hit the 12th tee and in the 20 minutes previous, Kent had lost a few holes meaning that suddenly we were level 4-4 with Hampshire and were down 5-3 to Surrey. The course quickly became unplayable. This meant that match standings when the storm hit became the result for the day which was extremely disappointing as the class of the Kent Team would have prevailed over the back 9 and am extremely confident we would have won both games.

It is like stopping a 100m Olympic final after 60m and their position then counting as the result without Usain Bolt being able to have his unbeatable finish.

Golf is hard and unfair sometimes, and the best team doesn't get the correct result on this day.

These results mean that although the boys are top of the league, a near impossible result would have to occur from the counties involved in the final match to enable Kent to win the league again.

The strong team of

Tom Paterson (Boughton)
Luke Jenkins (Rochester & Cobham Park)
Jake Antoun (Kings Hill)
Abe Bignell (Kings Hill)
George Edwards (Sene Valley)
Josh Van Niekerk (Kings Hill)
Josh Duggard (Chelsfield Lakes)
Lucas Dennison (U18 Boys Captain, Rochester & Cobham Park)

were robbed.

The Kent Under 18s are class. They are great individuals who come together to form an amazing team and are all extremely proud to represent Kent as part of their golfing journey. I am privileged to be involved with them all and to be their coach.
