Kent Futures Championships report

Date published: 14 Aug 2023

12 juniors took part in the penultimate Futures event at St Augustine’s on another lovely sunny day. It was nice to see smiling faces as they arrived and registered for the competition along with their parents.

It was a smaller field but still very competitive as St Augustine’s proved to be a challenging start and finish with the out of bounds to the right of the 1st and 18th fairways. There were also multiple ditches for the young golfers to navigate.

Noah had just gained his first handicap and was very proud to be playing off 20 and he still managed to come in with an impressive score of 42 points. This has resulted in his HI now being 18.3, well done Noah.

Zachary, still without a handicap and playing off 36, achieved another magnificent score of 46. He can now be very proud as he has achieved his first handicap of 25.7, well done Zachary.

The prizes were awarded in groups by handicap.

Group A – playing handicaps 13 to 22
Noah Norman, West Malling – 42 points – winner
Tom Edmeads, Hever Castle – 40 points – runner up

Group B – playing handicaps 29 to 37
Zachary Ward, Poult Wood – 46 points - winner
Abigail Maniloff, Langley Park – 38 – runner up from Dexter Stavri on countback

The course was presented in good condition with St Augustine’s friendly staff looking after us well. Judging by the chocolate smiles after their ice cream cones the young golfers certainly enjoyed the food.

It was also Mia’s birthday, so in true group spirit we sang happy birthday to her.

Thank you to Kim Brusadelli for being our starter and presenting the prizes. Kim and Christine Dunlop also looked after the juniors on the course. Between the three of us we witnessed some good enjoyable golf.

Looking forward to our last Futures event of the season, The Jamboree at Lydd Golf Club on Friday 18th August.
