The Finals of the 2023 Bradley Cook Trophy and Parallel Plate took place at West Kent Golf Club in some fabulous autumn sunshine.
The finalists in the Plate were Mid-Kent, represented by Loo Brackpool, Nicola Sehmi, Julia Ridley, Wendy Knight and Becky Sherrin, and Wildernesse, represented by Jennifer Hunt, Anna Gunter, Sue Mullinjer, Diana Reese and Lucy Weston. The first two matches went the way of Mid-Kent, both by the score of 4&3, but Wildernesse soon hit back by taking match three on the fourteenth green. Wildernesse had a slight advantage in the final two matches and held firm to win match four by 3&1 and match five by 3&2, giving them the Parallel Plate by three matches to two.
In the Trophy competition, the Nizels quintet of Pat Morecroft, Adele Young, Nikki Jones, Carol Turl and Gina Phillips were taking on defending champions, Sundridge Park, represented by Tita McCart, Nancy O’Connor, Kim Morris, Ingrid Long and Anne-Marie Forrester. First blood went to Nizels with a 2&1 victory in the top match, but this was immediately countered by a 3&2 win for Sundridge Park in match two. A win on the fifteenth green in match four put Sundridge ahead, and they wrapped things up by winning the final match on 17 for an overall victory by three matches to two (match 3 having been won on the last by Nizels after the result had been decided).

Our thanks go to West Kent for their kind hospitality, and many congratulations to Sundridge Park for defending their trophy. They will now go forward next year to represent Kent in the England Golf Women’s Champion Club event. This will be held at Hessle Golf Club, East Yorkshire, from the 31st August to the 1st September 2024, and we wish them all the very best in their quest to bring the title back to Kent.
