Doxford Foursomes report

Date published: 13 Oct 2023

Well, we knew the good weather couldn’t last, but it didn’t have to be quite so miserable! Forty-four women braved the persistent rain at Dartford for this year’s 27-hole Doxford Foursomes, a competition started by Irene Doxford, who was County President from 1947 to 1965.

The tricky conditions made for some difficult scoring, but coming out top on the day with 51 points and winning the Doxford Salvers were Bassey Dunbar and Anne-Marie Forrester (Sundridge Park).

Two points behind on 49, and taking the runners-up spot, was the Nizels pairing of Fiona Gilman and Laura Pickett. Bassey and Anne Marie also won the Doxford Horses for the best 18-hole score with 35 points, but under the rules were prevented from taking the prize. First prize, therefore, went to Sue Gofton and Gillian Newson (West Malling) on countback from Julie Gibson and Jan Morgan (Dartford). Taking the honours in the afternoon 9 holes, with 19 points, were Tracy Martin (Mid- Kent) and Di Pickersgill (Shooters Hill) on countback from Sarah Clark and Susan Cooper (Kings Hill).

Our thanks go to Dartford for their hospitality, and we look forward to (hopefully!) some sunshine next year when the Doxfords will be held on the 4th July at Cherry Lodge.
