It is with great sadness we advise of the death of Vivian Barton

Former Kent County stalwart Vivian Barton died aged 77 in December 2013. He was a solicitor with his father's practice in Whitstable and then with Furley Page in Canterbury for over 40 years, retiring as senior partner.

He was a member at Prince's for many years and whilst there he played representative golf for Kent for two decades, playing over 100 times for the County and maintaining a scratch handicap for 12 years.  He was County Captain and during that time was largely responsible for establishing the Winter Trials with Alf Hinge (now the Hinge Trophy). He was later a Vice President of the County.

After a period away from the game he was a member at both Canterbury and Royal St. George's for the rest of his golfing life and played mostly at Sandwich since 1994, although he was often to be seen playing with his wife Julia at Canterbury.

A memorial service will be held at Canterbury Cathedral at 2pm on 21st of January.
