The Kent Golf initiative to get women into golfing has been supported through academies and teaching from Anna Smith and other professionals across the county. Whilst women learn the joys of golf and start to take on the course, the question of rules and etiquette often comes up.
It was fabulous to welcome more than 30 newbie women golfers to an evening of prosecco and nibbles whilst covering rules and etiquette of golf. Hosted by Jason and his team at The Darenth, the evening kicked off with a cheeky glass and a walk through the rules by Jane Marr, a Kent Rules Official since 2011.
A host of subjects were covered including Searching for & Identifying your ball, provisional ball, Unplayable and many more - all supported with guidance from the Rules of Golf App authored by the R&A.
The presentation started with lots of energy as the women spent 3 minutes searching for a ball - luckily it was found within the time and the finder won a goody bag, courtesy of Kent Golf. Unfortunately she did incur a 1-shot penalty for lifting the ball without marking it!!
A combination of R&A videos, lessons from Jane and a couple of demonstrations provided a great opportunity for the women to start thinking about the rules.
The evening was a great success and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves - and even learnt something!
"It was a great night. Very informative. Jane is a very engaging speaker. Would definitely like to hear it all again. Thank you for sorting Anna and for asking all the right questions we needed to know x"
