Golf Session for visually impaired students

Date published: 28 Mar 2024

Junior Development Officer Tim Ewer ran a taster session for youngsters with a visual impairment at Dartford Girls Grammar School. Eleven students from four different schools around the County attended the session.

Following consultations with STLS (Specialist Teaching & Learning Services), slight adaptations were made for the session, with bells added to targets, and bright arrows placed on the floor to aid with direction. The floor targets have a velcrose surface, and it was surprising how loud the sound was in the gym when the ball stuck to it.

All of the students had a great time, and for most of them, it was their first time playing golf.

Further sessions are planned, including a Summer Foot-Golf afternoon at Pedham Place GC.

Many thanks to Richard Gardner & Shelley Robinson from STLS for their advice and invaluable help on the day, and to Dartford Girls Grammar School for letting us hold the session.
