Team Waltz competition report

Date published: 7 Jun 2024

There was a great turnout for the 2024 Kent Golf Team Waltz, where 18 teams, each comprising 3 women, did battle on a sunny but fresh day. The course at Canterbury was in beautiful condition and presented a difficult but fair test.

The stableford scoring system – one score to count on the first hole, two on the second, and three on the third etc – delivered some impressive totals, and the 81 points of Remi Russell, Pauline Weeks (both Dartford), and Angela Bainbridge (High Elms) was only good enough for fourth place. Coming in third on 86 was the Dartford trio of Sally Seboa, Sharon Kent, and Yvonne Bartlett, who were just beaten on countback by Judith Houghton, Jane Skynner, and Christine McGarry (all Sundridge Park). But nobody could match the mighty 92 points scored by the Ashford team of Maria Grieve, Catherine Hazeldean, and Valerie Hooper. Well played!

Nearest the pin on 2 was won by a home player, Caroline Collins, whilst nearest the pin in 3 on 18 was won by Wildernesse player Sue Mullinjer.

The Hidden Holes prize was taken by the Birchwood Park trio of Barbara Pyner, Zillah Reeves, and Sue Ngethe-Hynes.

Canterbury were fantastic hosts and incredibly generous with their donation of prizes. We thank them for their continued support of Kent Golf events, and we hope it is not too long before we can enjoy their hospitality again.
