The practice round on the day before the match started in a fine mist and gradually deteriorated until a thick fog descended after 8 holes and the course was shut – not an ideal start to our preparations!
The weather on the morning of the match was clearer, and the team got off to a good start, winning 2 of the 3 foursomes matches. Spirits were high, and the weather continued to improve, but the result was not to go our way. The team battled hard, but dressed/slow greens didn’t help our normally good putters, and we only took 1 point in the singles.
Many thanks to the Dyke GC for hosting the match and looking after us, and especially to Sally Brown, who retires after 6 years as their manager.
A big thank you must go to all our squad members who have played with such enthusiasm this year – team spirit is riding high and, hopefully, next year will be our year.
