Lamberhurst Golf Club were our generous hosts for the Men’s 36 hole Oscar Ash Cups, and there was most definitely an Autumnal feel in the air.
The sudden onset of chilly, damp conditions made good scoring hard to come by, and there was only one score in the 70s after the morning round, which belonged to Wildernesse’s Daniel Shields. This was only good enough, however, to give him the slenderest of leads going into round two – would he be able to see the job through?
Despite a couple of showers and some distant thundery rumbles, everybody completed the 36 holes, and most improved on their morning scores, which is always pleasing. Daniel duly held his nerve with a steady post-lunch 78 to win the Oscar Ash Scratch Cup by three shots from Adam Watts (Bearsted). Taking third spot was Dartford’s Levi Rutherford.
Winning the Oscar Ash Handicap Trophy by five strokes was Kings Hill’s Brandon McCormack, with the runner-up being Cliff Earl (Corinthian). Levi Rutherford again took third spot.
Our thanks go to Lamberhurst Vice Captain, Shaun, who turned up bright and early to start the players off and also attended the presentation.
We look forward to another edition of this enjoyable event next year at Rochester & Cobham Park on the 11th September 2025.
