The Darenth were our generous hosts for the 2024 finals of The Coombe Cup and The Tappin Trophy and all the players and attendees were well looked after by Jason and his team. Despite the inclement weather in the run-up to the event, the course held up well and the finalists played in dry and occasionally sunny conditions.
The Coombe Cup foursomes final was between Maggie Bates (Chart Hills) & Kathryn Johnstone (Weald of Kent) and Stephanie Hogg and Stephanie Matthews (Sittingbourne), who received three shots. It was a close affair and looked for all the world as if it would be going into extra holes until the Sittingbourne pair just snuck a win on the home green. Congratulations to Stephanie and Stephanie on a well-deserved victory!
The Tappin Trophy is a team-of-three competition with one woman playing in each handicap band of 12.5 to 19.4, 19.5 to 27.4 and 27.5 to 36.4. Our two finalists this year were Lamberhurst, represented by Pam Tanner, Sarah Thomas and Carla Kelly, and Wrotham Heath, represented by Heather Bennett, Kay Rowe and Sharon Oatley. Match three was the first to finish and resulted in a 7&6 victory for Wrotham Heath, but with match two favouring Lamberhurst, it would be match one that would be the decider. Heather held her nerve well to close out the game on the sixteenth by a score of
3&2 to give Wrotham Heath the title. Lamberhurst won the middle game by the same score to make it 2-1 overall. Many congratulations to Heather, Kay and Sharon on their win!
Our thanks go to County President Marilyn Brown for running the day, to Chris and Elaine Tappin for attending and presenting the trophies, and to referee Allan Stevens for his invaluable rules assistance.
