End of Year Message from the Chair, Alan Austin

Date published: 19 Dec 2024

Another year and another year of challenging weather for players and golf courses alike, the season felt very short, with Spring arriving late and Autumn arriving early with heavy rain. As always, Kent Golf had successes with our county teams and the continued development of the next generation playing this wonderful game.

Notable success goes to our youngsters this year:
Junior U18 Boys team won the SE Group qualifying, making the England finals at Teignmouth GC, Devon
Junior U14 Boys team winning the SE group final at West Essex GC

Well done to all our teams. Some near misses in our other teams, and I am sure more successes are on the cards for 2025. Onwards and upwards for next year. A big thank you to our team managers, coaches, and volunteers for their tremendous hard work and support. I know our players with input from our coaches will be using the winter break to improve and challenge for trophies next season.

Each year, I mention how we at Kent Golf are striding forward developing this great game for everyone to enjoy from all walks of life. From County Championships to our Disability Programmes, the Junior Coaching and Academy Pathways as well as Mini Tours and Women’s Academies - all of which encourage everyone to play in Kent golf events whatever their level of golf - from the elite player to the club golfer, there are events for everyone to play in. I am pleased to report that interest for all of our programmes continues to grow in popularity each year, which I believe is an incredible achievement to make golf accessible for all in Kent.

Kent Golf events only happen because of the hard working volunteers and our full time employees, quite simply a huge thank you to these amazing people working behind the scenes and turning up in all weathers and yes rain (particularly again this year), to ensure we can run good events. I Promise to try and order some better weather for next year.

We are lucky to have such great support from our Kent Clubs who have had some tough years of late managing their clubs and courses in this climate. Their continued support, hospitality, and generosity, enable us to host events throughout the year, which is very much appreciated, a big thank you to them all.

We close 2024 with opportunistic thoughts for next season and I wish you the members a very enjoyable festive season and a good golfing in 2025.
