Spring Meeting report

Date published: 20 May 2025

Once again we were warmly welcomed by the London Golf Club for our Kent Golf Spring Meeting where a full field of 72 players did battle over the International course. The sun came out after a chilly start and there was some very good scoring in evidence in the fourball betterball stableford format.

Jamie Newman (Chestfield) and Luke Herlihy (Stonelees) posted an early score of 44 points and faced a long wait to see if it would be good enough to win them the day. Although quite a few groups got close, no one could match them, and they were victorious. It was worth the wait! The runners-up, with 43 points, were Mid Kent’s Andrew Stelfox and Dean Keys, with Mark Sampson and Garry Kewley (Birchwood Park) taking third spot on countback on 42.

Chislehurst’s Cindy Mayer, playing in her first Kent Golf competition, took the women’s longest drive and nearest the pin on the 8th, with Suzanne Bullock (Wildernesse) closest to the pin on 12. Jamie Newman added to his spoils by winning the longest drive on 18, and Leon Woods (Bearsted) was nearest to the pin for the men on the 8th.

And just to cap the day off with something special, Birchwood Park’s Mike Abbott had a hole-in-one on the 12th.

Many congratulations, Mike! Our thanks go to Marilyn for performing starting duties and to Ian for his help on the day.

A very big thank you to The London Club for continuing to support this competition, which is fast becoming a favourite with the players. Long may it continue!
