After the dreadful weather the day before at Walmer & Kingsdown, we were blessed with a beautiful day at Royal Blackheath for the second of our special Centenary events. A field of 80 players very much enjoyed their day on the historic course, and we were also honoured to be given a look around the museum; a fascinating glimpse at our golfing history.
There was some very good scoring on display in the best two-from-four stableford format, with the spoils going to the team from Lullingstone Park – Adrian Barker, Frank Witt, Per Mortensen and Paul Simpson – with an impressive 88 points. Runners-up were Jake Eastwood, Geof Dwyer, Dan Eley and Stephen Garrod representing Westgate & Birchington on 86, with the High Elms team of Guy Marks, Andy Halka, Sharon Assemakis and Gillian Rawlins taking third spot on countback from St. Augustine’s.
The appropriately-named Ben Driver (Royal Blackheath) took the men’s long drive prize with Dawn Sullivan (Sundridge Park) taking the women’s equivalent. Nearest the pins were won by Matt Hart (Eltham Warren) and Anne-Marie Forrester (Sundridge Park).
Our thanks go to the team at Royal Blackheath GC for their wonderful hospitality and to all the clubs that attended to help us celebrate our special year.
