On a slightly drizzly 'summer's' evening, the weather didn't dampen the spirits of the 24 women who came to The Darenth for an evening of rules and etiquette. At the beginning of their golfing journey, the women enjoyed a couple of hours out on the course whilst PGA Professional and County Coach Anna Smith and County Secretary Sarah McDonald demonstrated the do's and don'ts of golfing etiquette. We even threw in a few teaching opportunities for the rules of golf supervised by county referees, Britta Nolle and Ali McGuirck.
On the 1st hole, Anna did so many things wrong; turning up to the tee late, fidgetting whilst Sarah was playing her shot and not raking the bunker. Terrible behaviour. On the 2nd hole, behaviour was much better, and we were able to demonstrate situations such as "Unplayable" options, "Provisional Ball", "Temporary Water" and many others.
After 'play', it was back into the clubhouse lounge, with teams set to list all the things Anna did wrong on the 1st hole, whilst enjoying Prosecco and nibbles. The team with the most observations won a box of Kent Golf goodies. Then it was find the ‘lost ball’ and after a mere 30 seconds it was found. The clock continued to tick whilst the remainder of the three minutes was given in an effort to demonstrate just how long three minutes is.
A great evening, which was well received by all. Sincere thanks to The Darenth for hosting.
