The Kent team of Danielle Thwaites (Boughton), Ally Kutz (Prince's), Nicole Amos (Littlestone), Lucia Masding (Knole Park), Nicola Smith and Millie Thompson (both Sittingbourne & Milton Regis), Skye Fontanelli (Faversham) and Ellena Slater (Kings Hill) travelled to Mill Hill Golf Club – a welcome green space between the A1 and M1 roads in Middlesex.
Day 1 Kent v Middlesex – a promising start with both our foursomes pairs winning their matches. Sadly, this proved to be something of a false dawn, and our 3 singles matches went to Middlesex. A disappointing 2/3 loss despite some excellent play.
Day 2 am - Kent v Sussex – our first foursomes pair were quick out of the blocks and brought in the first win, but sadly the second pair couldn’t match it. So 1 all after the foursomes. Millie, fresh from a good night's sleep to overcome her jetlag, together with Skye and Ellena, won their singles matches. An excellent 4/1 win for Kent.
Day 2 pm – Kent v Hampshire – a slight change around in our team, but our first foursomes pair brought in another win, and the 2nd pair suffered a narrow loss. Again, 1 all after the foursomes. A slight change around Millie, Lucia, and Ellena all brought in wins. Another excellent 4/1 win for Kent.
Day 3 am – Kent v Surrey – old rivals and a must win for Kent if they are to be Top Dogs. Our first foursomes pair managed a half, but the second pair lost. On to the singles, and we had to wait until the very last match on the course to gain another point. Kent 1½ Surrey 3½. Surrey are the strongest side in the Region at the moment and win the competition, with Kent coming second.
Danielle Thwaites and Ally Kutz were unbeaten in their foursomes matches, and all our players put in a strong performance.
Sadly, this could be the last appearance for Millie Thompson in a Kent shirt as she looks to continue her golf career in the States. We wish her well and thank her for many years representing the County from her Junior days up to Women’s County Week. Good luck, Millie.
Thank you to the parents and other supporters who travelled to Mill Hill. Special thanks to Team Manager Steve Mitchell and also to Tim Milford, Kent’s Lead Coach.
Onwards and Upwards – Surrey, we are coming for you!!
Thank you to Flairway Golf for providing the Team Kit.
