Kent’s county side travelled to East Brighton Golf Club to take on Sussex in what proved to be a tightly contested and high-quality encounter. Despite a strong fightback in the afternoon singles, Kent narrowly lost out with a final score of 7–5 in favour of the hosts.
The morning foursomes saw Kent struggle to find momentum, managing just ½ point from four matches. Notably, Lucas Dennison and Abe Bignell produced a superb five-under-par round, a performance that deserved more but ultimately ended in a halved match against strong opposition.
Trailing 3½–½ at lunch, Kent showed real character and determination in the singles. With their backs against the wall, the team responded brilliantly. Abe Bignell, Lucas Dennison, Nick Buckland, Sam Beadle, and Charlie Fuller all secured vital points in the afternoon session, demonstrating grit, composure, and quality under pressure. Their efforts helped Kent win the singles session, but the gap from the morning was just too much to bridge.
The match was played in fantastic spirit throughout, with both teams showcasing excellent golf and true sportsmanship. A big thank you to Sussex Golf and East Brighton Golf Club for their warm hospitality and superb hosting.
Kent will now turn their attention to the return fixture at Rochester & Cobham Park in August — with plenty of positives to take forward and the rematch already eagerly anticipated.
