Kent Women's Senior Championship report

Chislehurst Golf Club were our generous hosts for the 2025 Women’s Senior Championship, and what a super venue they presented us with. A short but tough course, with extremely tricky greens, made for a challenging but rewarding couple of days.
Quick out of the blocks in her first senior county competition was Dartford’s Anne Wheble, who posted a one-over-par 70 on day one to take a three-shot lead over reigning champion, Kim Morris (Sundridge Park). Just behind were Nizels’ Nicola Jones on 74 and home player, Sue Smollett, one shot further back on 75. It was much of the same on day two as Anne continued her steady form and despite an excellent front nine from Nicola, which kept the pressure on, Anne pulled away on the back nine and signed for a 72 and a total of 142, which was enough to give her a seven-shot victory over Nicola.
There was fierce competition for the Handicap Trophy with many players shooting in the nett 60s, but taking the title was Michelle Warden (Pedham Place) with two consistent rounds of 67 and 68, just one shot ahead of runner-up, Jude Mackenzie (Sundridge Park).
The Over 50s scratch prize was won by Wildernesse’s Sarah McDonald, and her clubmate, Sue Mullinjer, took the nett. In the Over 60s category, Kim Morris took the scratch and Tudor Park’s Angela Grant the nett, and in the Over 70s, Pat Morecroft (Nizels) and Christine Edgar (Sundridge Park) took the scratch and nett spoils respectively.
Our thanks go to all of the Kent Golf referees and volunteers who gave their time to assist with the running of the competition, and a special mention to the wonderful Chislehurst Golf Club members who came out in force to ball-spot and lend their support – your presence was greatly appreciated and helped to make the occasion special for the players.
Anne will now go on to represent Kent in the England Golf Champion of Champions event at Woodhall Spa in September, and we wish her all the very best.
