Junior Summer Meeting report

As we near the end of the summer holidays, the sun continues to shine on our Kent Golf youngsters who are making the most of their break before they have to return to school. Chestfield Golf Club, near Whitstable, was the host for our Summer Meeting, and didn’t they look after us well? Excellent hospitality and a lovely choice of food for the players’ late lunch.
Taking the scratch honours with a 74 was North Foreland’s Luke Hopson, with Caleb Twyman coming in second on 78, just ahead of third placed Oscar Ford (Bearsted). Our nett winner with a solid 69 was Canterbury’s Claudia Carlotti, who took it by one stroke from Oliver Elms (North Foreland). Rounding out the top three was Richard Jiang (Chelsfield Lakes) with a nett 71.
The winner of the Stableford trophy for handicaps of 24.5 and above was Leo Horne (Westgate and Birchington).
This year was the fourth time Kent Golf have awarded the James Marshall Trophy, named in honour of one of our past Professional Team Coaches. This is awarded to the player who has performed best in the Spring and Summer Meetings and the Junior Championship. Many congratulations to Caleb Twyman, who received the cup from James’ daughters, Olivia and Lucy, and is a very worthy recipient of this special trophy. He joins the list of previous winners, Anouk Woodhouse, Bella Watson and Selina Bartarya.
Our thanks go to Chestfield for their continuing support of our county competitions, and also a big thank you to our wonderful referees and volunteers – Marilyn, Allan, Jon, Kathie and Christine – who gave up their time to help run the day.
