The testing parkland course that is Rochester and Cobham Park GC, looked beautiful in the post-dawn sunlight as our 54 players started arriving for the 2025 Oscar Ash Cups. The morning, for the most part, was dry – albeit exceedingly windy – but the afternoon brought a couple of heavy downpours, which provided the competitors with more than the usual challenge a 36-hole event brings.
Despite the conditions, there was some excellent scoring, and none could do better than Pedham Place’s Giles Brennan, who shot 75, 74 to take the Scratch trophy. But he wasn’t finished yet! Giles also won the Handicap trophy on countback from Declan Dorman (Langley Park), who did at least have the consolation of picking up the first prize voucher. Runner-up in the scratch was home player Daniel Plunkett, on 155, with his clubmate, Sam Connor, just behind on 156. Second place in the handicap event went to Sam Hopkin (Royal Blackheath), with Eltham Warren’s Daniel Collins completing our list of prize winners in third.
Our thanks go to Cameron and his team at Rochester and Cobham Park GC for providing us with such a wonderful venue, and a very big thank you to our Kent Golf volunteers, Marilyn, Jon, Richard, and Cathy, who braved the elements to help out on a very long and difficult day.
