Our U4 boys played the SE Final at the weekend at Bramshaw Golf Club in The New Forest. This year’s final was between Kent, Surrey, and Bedfordshire.
The night before the match, all parents and boys had a fantastic fun evening in a local pub for a meal and some serious team building, which involved Jenga…
Back to the match, on paper it looked like it would be a very big ask to retain the magnificent trophy from our great win in 2025, and this proved to be true, as Surrey’s top 5 players were all one handicaps or better, and their highest was only 4.6.
Our boys all played their hearts out with some amazing golf witnessed, and five matches went down to the last hole, but ultimately we went down fighting, losing 7-3 to Surrey. However, as we beat Bedfordshire, we received the runners-up spot, and all of the boys were proudly presented silver medals from Martin McDermott of England Golf.
One of the boys was overheard saying, "We would have beaten them at Jenga!"
Sadly, we are losing eight of this year’s U14 squad players as they move up to the U16s, but all of them have played to the absolute highest level for the last two years and left nothing on the course in any matches they have played.
Included in the eight are Oscar Ford, this year’s Captain, and Oliver McDonnell, who skippered us in 2024. We wish them, and everyone who is moving up, all the very best, and would like to thank them for their 100% commitment and camaraderie/friendship to the county and to their teammates on and off the course.
In 2026, we go again with our Triple Shield winning U13 team, forming a very strong nucleus for the U14s, all with lots of top level matchplay experience under their young belts already. The future of Kent Golf is shining very brightly.
Many thanks as ever to the many parents for their support, friendship, and of course, tireless taxi duties during the season, and a huge thanks to Head Coach Peter Parks, who got them to this very high standard.
Don’t forget, the U14 trials will be as usual on the coldest day of the year at Pedham Place GC in early January, look out for details.
