We are excited to announce the County's new Disability Ambassador, Benji Heaton

Date published: 7 Nov 2025

Benji is a professional based at Walmer & Kingsdown Golf Club.

He started playing golf at 16, which was quite late, but he didn’t think he would be able to play golf due to his disability.

Benji has bilateral talipes (severe club feet), which restricts the mobility in his feet and hips, and he had 13 operations from the age of a few months to when he was eleven.

He turned professional at the age of 29 and has recently joined the EDGA tour, which allows him to use a buggy because walking 18 holes is a struggle due to the pain, and he recently played in The English Open for golfers with a disability.

Benji says he has enjoyed meeting other golfers on the EDGA tour, and has found it inspirational listening to their stories and how they have overcome their own disabilities to allow them to play golf.

He added: "In life I always try to be positive and enthusiastic, and taking on this role I can show others that having a disability is a challenge, but with the right mindset you can make the most of the situation."

Benji is taking over the important role from Kipp Popert.

Kipp, whose home club is Wildernesse GC, has been a fantastic ambassador for Kent and has now become a regular player on the EDGA Tour, played in the Australian ISPS Handa Australian All Abilities Championship, as well as featuring regularly at the top of the leaderboard of the G4D Tour. And who could forget Kipp playing in the All Stars Match team at the Ryder Cup in 2023, with his playing partner, Novak Djokovic.

Kipp says: "I am more than happy to pass on the torch and be a friend of the program when needed, and will always be passionate about growing the opportunities for disabled golf in Kent."
