The Hinge Trophy Final, the traditional curtain-raiser to our golfing season, took place at a dry but chilly Royal St. George's Golf Club in Sandwich, where twenty of the finest male golfers from around the county took to the famed links to see how they would fare against the strict par of 70.
The best of the day, etching his name onto the trophy for the second time, was County 1st Team Manager, Tony Adams (Prince’s), with a fine 67, a solid round that contained five birdies. Runner-up was Rochester and Cobham’s Nick Panting with 70, on countback from Joe Hooper (Wrotham Heath) in third.
The nett winner was Lloyd Nutley (North Foreland), who had a very tidy round of 16 pars and two birdies, which gave him a nett 66, two shots ahead of Chestfield’s Declen Kirkham in second place. Rounding out the prize winners was Oliver McDonnell (Rochester and Cobham) with a nett 70.
Our thanks, as always, go to Royal St. George’s for their generosity in hosting this event again and for the terrific lunch, which surely went a long way towards warming up the players after their exertions.
Thank you also to our trusty band of referees and volunteers – Chris, Paul, Britta, Ciarán and Ken – for kindly giving up their time to help the day run smoothly.
Many congratulations to Tony on his first victory of the 2026 season, and who would bet against there being many more?
