CPR Training Course report

Date published: 11 Feb 2026

34 Kent golfers attended the CPR Training Course at Ashford GC last Wednesday evening. The course was expertly delivered by David Sullivan from Code Blue CPR, who kept the attention span of all attendees going with a good sense of humour while presenting us with a lot of facts and interesting information to kickstart the session.

At the end of the course, everyone understood the difference between a heart attack and cardiac arrest, when to and when not to intervene, what the cardiac arrest survival rates are and how CPR can positively affect them, and we all learned a step-by-step approach to giving CPR with a hands-on learning experience on hi-tech mannequins that lit up when the tempo and depth of chest compressions was just right. Towards the end of the course, David also demonstrated how to use a defibrillator (AED) and answered many interesting questions, and again, everyone had the chance to try the AED out, gaining confidence in using it in real-life and delivering the aid safely.

We have received some great feedback from the attendees, which we look forward to sharing with you soon.

A big thank you to Ashford GC for hosting this event for us.

Do you know the location of the defibrillator at your golf club? Would you know how to use it and how to perform CPR on someone before the AED or ambulance arrives?

If the answer to any of the questions above is no, we strongly recommend that you ask your club and look at the resources at www.bhf.org.uk. You never know when it may be needed, and it is always best to be prepared.

Feedback:

1) "A big thank you for organising the CPR course. I found it interesting and informative. Dave was a brilliant instructor – it was clear to see how passionate he is about the importance of CPR. I am going to discuss with our General Manager the possibility of installing a defibrillator at the halfway hut. I believe it would be a valuable addition to our safety measures. Thank you once again for your efforts."

2) "Once again, thank you very much for delivering such an informative session at the Ashford Golf Club on Wednesday evening. I have taken away a lot of knowledge and confidence that I will be able to do the 'right thing' should I ever find myself in that situation, and I am sure everyone else did too."
