We would like to thank Ken Powell (North Foreland) for sharing his story, and hope that it will inspire people with a disability to try and/or continue playing golf:
"Like many paralysed people, I thought my opportunity to play golf had come crashing to a halt and thought that I would never play again. Friends rallied and found a device, called a Paragolfer, that I might be able to use to continue my golfing quest. We had to travel to get a demonstration, and I was a bit dubious at first. But, after getting into the device, I realised this could work for me. From that day, till this, I have never looked back.
Initially, I practised and wondered if I could get around 18 holes. I was sceptical standing on the 1st tee, but with encouragement from friends, I hit the ball, and I was away. Two years later, I play twice a week and thoroughly enjoy it.
Now, my Paragolfer is available for others to try and get the opportunity to realise their dream of playing golf. If you don't try, you could be missing out big style. The fresh air, beautiful golf courses and camaraderie are something to behold. You will not regret it. Also, it's a great form of physiotherapy and improves your wellbeing.
Now, the Kent Golf are promoting Disability Golf. There are events you can play in and meet some fantastic people who are like minded. Well done Kent Golf for making people's lives better and encouraging all abilities."
