Flags bent like bananas, trolleys threw themselves to the ground, and all birdlife quickly decided that walking was the best option; yes, it was rather windy at Royal St. George's Golf Club for the 2026 Robin Young Trophy Final. The wind gauge was consistently between 20 and 30mph, and even touched 40mph on occasion, but it didn’t stop 30 of Kent’s best senior golfers from venturing out to do battle over the famed links.
On a day of extremely difficult scoring, the winner of the handicap prize was Jim Coventry (Prince’s) with a nett 76, two strokes ahead of Bearsted’s Mark Muller. Peter Newman (Chestfield) came third with a 79.
In the scratch competition, third place went to North Foreland’s Phil Palmer on 83, just one shot behind runner-up, Derek Kindercliff-Jones (Littlestone). But coming out on top with an 80 and lifting the Robin Young Trophy for the first time was Martin Farbrace (Sene Valley).
A big thank you to Royal St. George’s for their hospitality and also to our Kent Golf referees and volunteers – Ingrid, Ken, Helen and Angela – for giving up their time to brave the elements.
Many congratulations to Martin on his well-won victory!
