England international Max Orrin has won the Waterford Trophy at Sundridge Park. The 72 hole world ranking men's event was played in a mixture of weather conditions, torrential rain, driving winds, sunshine and even a hailstones storm.
A level par round in round 1 left him 3 shots behind England A squad player Jonathon Bell but with the wind and rain picking up in round 2 Orrin, with a remarkable 5 under par 66, was the only player in the field to break par. Bell made a lightning start to round 3 being 3 under par for the first nine holes but with a couple of birdies, Orrin held a two shot lead into the last round.
A bogie free 6 under par 63, which equalled the course record, extended Orrin's lead to 9 shots and secured the 37th Waterford Trophy. This win follows Orrin's recent success in winning the Kent Junior Championship two weeks ago held at Sene Valley.
