As we approach the festive season, there is much to reflect upon about 2021 but, of more concern perhaps, is the shadow of Coronavirus lingering over us which, as I write this, is worryingly reminiscent of this time last year. Let us all hope that the next few months do not see us back in lockdowns with our clubhouses closed and golfing curtailed.
Looking back over 2021, I have to publicly thank the Kent Golf team - not only our hard-working staff, but also the volunteers without whom we could not function as we do. This was our first golfing season since unification and the calendar was compressed into a shorter period than usual. We moved from Zoom calls to meetings in person and golf played as we used to! Melding the two organisations into one in such circumstances has given rise to some obstacles, but we are now getting into a rhythm and I commend all involved for their efforts to achieve that.
As I say above, we rely on volunteers - as directors, rules officials, course rating team members, committee members and as helpers at our junior academies and on-course events. We are continually looking for additional help as we try to do more for our clubs and Kent golfers - if you are interested in helping, even only occasionally, please do get in touch with the office. If you have skills which would help us at board level - accounting, legal or business - please do put your hand up to help. We can involve you in a committee to learn your way in; come September, there will be vacancies as Elected Directors which we will need to fill.
